Nope, only the VR4 had all the really cool technology. The other models were for the budget minded consumer. Looks only....not really a performer. To give the general idea....the vr4 was made in japan to battle to Supra TT and rx7 tt and z car. Well, when they brought it over here in the states, chrysler still had there say in which cars they can build one-off's on. Like the eagle talon and plymouth laser are the eclipses, chrysler made the equivalent Dodge Stealth for the 3000gt. Well, the upper end of the dodge market was taken care of by their new viper, so they concentrated on the lower end sports car. So they made only a handful of Twin turbo AWD stealth R/T's and whole lotta base and non-turbo models that were purely for the looks of a sports car and not the performance. Well, Since mitsu had proprietary rights to model, they rebadged some of the non-turbo chryslermodels to help fill the gap between the vr4 model and top of the line Eclipse GSX. Remember, the gsx cost about $28k and the VR4 cost about $45k. That a huge gap that a mustang, camaro, or bimmer can fill. Mitsu didn't wanna lose sales so they filled it with the non-turbo cars. It's a breif history lesson, but it's worth telling.

Yeh, having a VR-4 is very much worth the extra cash....people know the difference between 3000GT and 300GT VR-4. They are less willing to step up to the plate and run'em!!

That's true, the vr4's are powerhouses. Honostly I think the vr4's were better performers than the supra and z. Since the RX7 is the handling champ of the four(and the rest of the auto world for that matter), the vr4 was probably the second best in handling because it's somewhat easier to control understeer than oversteer. As for quarter miles, 320hp+AWD is all anyone really needs. Only problem was weight though....they need to go on a diet. The vr4's weighed about 3800-3900lbs depending on year. That makes them equivalent to a v8 f-body or mustang cobra. Six-speed, not that i'm telling you what to do to your car, but you seriously gotta lose some of the weight. An awd eclipse with a 16g will outrun you, and it's not cool for the little brother to show up the big brother....

Coolest car mitsu ever made : The 1995-1996 3000GT Spyder VR4.

I totally agree w/ you on the weight of the VR-4. I'm not too familiar w/ how to decrease it but if you have any ideas for the future please let me know. Hey by the way...what kind of airfilter should i buy to increase HP and long lasting?? ROCK ON!

For the filter, I'm gonna go with everyone else and say the K&N. It really is the best and all those companies like Injen and AEM use them in their Cold Air Intakes. As for the weight....remove unnecessary things.

1)Sound deadening, it really doesn't reduce noise at all from my experience but weighs 60lbs...On my eclipse it weighed 63.3lbs.

2)Rear seats, unless you need the back seat for something else.......get rid of it.

3)Front fenders weigh about 25lbs each, switch to urethane units.

4)Y2k Toyota celica front seats weigh much less than the front cloth or leather 3000gt seats, get em. Plus they're this cool neoprene stuff that looks really sweet.

5)Lose the AC system, good for me since i drive adroptop, iffy for you guys with coupes

6)Carbon fiber hood. Not only for good looks, lose about 30lbs or more

7)Leave the spare tire and tools at home. Get Triple A.

8)Go on diet. Winters over, start excercising you happy-meal-eatin-thunder-chunky.

9)Switch to a single exhaust. Dualies look cool, but lose one side and you've lost about 15lbs

10)Get Lightweight wheels. 93-96 Mazda RX7 stock wheels weigh next to nothing and are wider than your current wheels. Collectively, lose 15lbs from the car and like 60lbs of unsprung weight.

Depending onhow fat you are...It could be down to 3600lbs or even 3500lbs. Remember, your goal is 3400lbs. That's about the same weight as a z and lighter than a supra. Now you can handle, accelerate, and stop better and also re-install the back seats since the chicks will see you're ripped and not a flabby-oevrweight-Fatty-Mcfatfat. Good luck.
