Default TT conversion

who has done a TT conversion? i have been trying to holdout for a VR-4 but i am not having any luck with finding one without billions of miles on it. so i figured if i can buy an SL or base with lower miles and TT it for under the cost of the VR-4s i am finding with alot of miles it would be worth it.

thanks everyone.

www.3sx.com is a good place to get the parts for a TT conversion. They sell the td-04 turbos for under $2,000 for 2 of them. www.3si.org is a good place to get info on doing the conversion, and yes it's very possible. You can't simply bolt on a TT, you have to have LOT of parts, including a different lower plenum, oil cooler kit, all the lines, new ECU, etc... I priced out everything and came up with roughly $10,000 to do a FULL conversion. That includes all the parts for the TT, upgraded exhaust for the TT, and you have to get a stronger clutch which is around $2,000. It's not cheap.

I will get a list from 3si that has everything you would need.

no one here has ANY experience with the TT conversion...so no one should answer. The REAL answer is that its not THAT expensive and I might even be able to help you out more than you might think. I AM a TT conversion and I am probably going to go back to NA here shortly. If you are SERIOUS about doing a TT swap into your car shoot me a line and I will explain all about it IN DETAIL and maybe even get you a good deal on EVERYTHING down to the last bolt to make your car run STRONG and Twin Turbo.

LMAO, aa TT conversion isn't simply bolting on something. You have to change more than just your engine, unless you want a half *** job. Sure, go ahead and bolt on a couple turbos and take the cheap way out. Hell, even the heads are different, the N/A head ports are smaller and the shrouds are larger, getting them ported is not cheap.

Here is a list of parts you will need just for the TT http://www.importprecision.com/tt.htm

that is of course you want to do it right and NOT half *** rigged like some people say you can <cough>

i will be serious if i dont buy a VR-4, i am looking to buy a 3000GT, but i was waiting for a VR-4 which is taking forever so i started thinking of other options and the TT conversion seemed like a good choice so i am trying to figure out how much money is involved and how difficult it is to actually do the work.

LMAO

ok i think i speak for everyone that really knows about the 3000GT's

" im not saying i know alot, i know enought to say that 10,000 is way to much for a twin turbo set up.and it can be done"

ok. ictponder how much do you really now about the 3000gt
(I dont mean this in a bad way)

If you do a bolt on i will work. the SL And VR-4 Engine are the same
the only difference is SL non turbo - VR-4 turbo.

Note: On the SL you have two bolts. If you look at the services manual it will be called out as the "COLANT DRAIN" plug when you find them two that's were the front and rear turbo cooling lines plug into.

All you really need is this
turbos,headers,pre-cat,oilpan, boost controller, gaskits, intercoller, intercoller piping, oil lines and return lines, cooling lines,
oil pan and gaskit. compare this to your list

most of the stuff you need is already on the DOHC.
and for down pipes.3sxpreformance has a special down pipe setup
that way you can keep the stock front motor mount on the SL.

look into it you will see.

You talking about $10,000 for a TWIN TURBO set up is dumb.(that a stock turbo set up)
you can find a VR-4 in good shape for under $10,000 and then buy
an engine direct import from japan for under $2-3 thousand w/ tranny

i hope this really help you all.

Michaels_RT you can back me up on this one when i say thay "$ 10,000 for turbo set up is alot"

If you have any quetions fell free to ask.

thanks
