alright i am trying to get as much info as possible before i call and go drive it. what shouldi be looking for to tell if its gonna be a good car? i know the 1gens had the recall on the transfer case did the 2gen?
Yes the 2gens had the same recall...its a free standing recall though. So dont OVERLY stress that. Its considered a safety item so if it EVER needs to be changed they change it...no questions asked. As far as things to look for. Look for leaks. Noises at startup. Knocks and ticks other than the lifters. Blue or White smoke. A little black smoke isnt anything. The VR4s actually run a little rich stock. But you probably wont see any of that. Then drive it and make sure the turbos spool properly. And make sure you are looking behind you when they spool up. No smoke is a good sign.

GOOD LUCK MAN! Sounds like an AWESOME deal.

I've talked with over a dozen people who are TT FWD and they are saying that anyone who does a conversion for under $10,000 is idiodic or simply doing it cheap, and would be cheaper overall just to buy a VR-4. You may be the only one around these forums who has done it, but you are NOT the only one on the web. And I stick to my previous comment, you go ahead and keep doing things the cheaper way. Oh, and the namecalling is really 3rd grade, but hey if that's what you're all about...

I think its funny that you think that when I call you retarded I am 3rd grade but you can make these comments, "anyone who does a conversion for under $10,000 is idiodic" and think you ARENT 3rd grade. Grow up and just stop talking about ANYTHING that has to do with these cars. And I promise you dont know "DOZENS" that have done the TT conversions to a FWD. On 3si.org (the largest 3s gathering of people) there are 90 listed as completed and 31 more listed as IN PROGRESS. (Yes I am on that list) Of those cars LESS THAN HALF changed the engine. WELL LESS. And of those that DID change the engine, almost ALL were SOHC in teh beginning so they HAD to change the engine. The ONLY thing I went "cheap" on was using used turbos and IC's. But ICs dont "wear out" and turbos are replaceable. So I still dont get your math on this or what people you talk to. $10,000 in the engine bay can not just TT an NA car, but you can run the TITAN headers, TD05 16G turbos, FMIC, custom EVERYTHING, AEM EMS full standalone, brand new engine from the dealer, etc etc etc. You just live on another planet. But you keep going on thinking how you think. Throw money away on things that arent necessary, and sleep tight.

Honestly go with a Vr4/RT-TT, A TT conversion does not cost $10k, but it's not cheap either, in the end it will end up costing about as much as a vr4 would have, but be less reliable. I know 3 people who have done TT conversions, all of them blew their engines withi'n a few months. Not boosting high or anything, I dunno if it's because of the different compression ratios or what, but they just don't seem reliable. ....Plus who wants FWD? =P

In all fairness though, my car spun a bearing because of the guy who did my welds in the pan. It was a lame lazy thing that killed my car. Not the turbos.

HELL YEAH MAN!! I cant wait to see it and hear about how it rides! Sounds like a SWEET deal. Just take it easy on the 3rd gear syncro. Make it REAL deliberate into that gear and I bet it drives like a dream. Enjoy and keep us posted.

how expensive is it to get the synchro fixed? not like it matters getting thecar for 7500 def. makes up for it.
