i just bought a turbo charger and an intercooler with all the necessary piping for my 1993 3000gt sl with automatic tranny. but now i'm starting to hear stories that the automatic transmission won't be able to handle the power of a turbo, even at low boost. is this true? if it is what do i do???

i bought it online but they have it back ordered so i can cancel it if i need to. i just found out today that my automatic transmission may not be able to handle the added power of a turbo, even on low boost. so i may cancel the order unless someone tells me otherwise. i just got the turbo and nothing else because im gonna be buying a little bit over time. if i have to pay $1500 forsomethinglikethe VR4 tranny then im not gonna get it.

you cant buy everything else over time except the supporting mods but as long as the exhaust manifolds go they need to be custom fabricated. what type of turbo is it anyway?

as long as the auto tranny goes it CAN do what ever you want it to do just look at this thread on 3si.

You can't compare Nelson's fully built race tranny to the stocker the poster has.

At the minimum, you should at least install an upgraded valve body and an LSD.

Start with a healthy ATX, add an Import Performance modified valve body w/ shift kit, and external tranny cooler, and your ATX will be just fine. http://www.importperformancetransmission.com/Valve body is like $450.00, external cooler $50.00. If you have friend to help with the install you dont even have to drop the tranny to install the valve body. You might want to look into a Limited Slip Diff replacement if your going to track the car. The Quaife is considered the best.

If you really are wanting to Boost your ATX, it can be done, it will be a totally different car. Just do your research, do it right the first time. Take care of it and it will treat you very well.
