Default who would win this race???

who do you guys think would win this race: my 1993 3000gt auto vs. my friends 2007 impreza 2.5i 5-speed. my car is stock and his car has a cat back and an intake. we've already established that he'd win from a stop cause of his awd. but i think from a role of 30-40mph on the highway i could take him. anyone have any objections

Hey 3000gt man you helped me out before with my engine smoke problem, so I'll post. You dont have a vr4 do you? I'm assuming you dont cuz u said 3000gt auto, but i think u said you converted to a vr4 engine b4 or something. I think his car is the version just before the sti it has like 220 hp or something, if I'm right than that turbo car you will leave behind yourself on the highway, from a rolling start, its hard to say, he has awd so he wont burn out, he'll just go, but remember awd loses more power @ the wheel than a fwd or rwd. Now, if he goes faster than a stop and you floor it, you should gain on him because 4 cylinder turbo cars do not have much power when they go like 100mph plus, they die out, i mean evo and sti can be maybe an exception if hooked up, but a car like that will die out bc it just wont have the natural power a v6 does to top out. The more cylinders the car, the bigger top speed most of the time exceptions are: v8 mustangs are 150mph, eclipse gsx is 170, what a difference. So, he might get you in the beginning bc of his awd. But his turbo lag and the power he loses to the wheels bc of the awd will bleed him down as you start going towards the top end, however if his car has no turbo, then you will beat him easy. He will have to shift and that will make him lose time. 1/10 of a second is lost on a single shift, depends on the driver too. So in the end, you will most likely beat him, in the beginning he might be ahead, Example, honda s200 will win from a stop versing the mustang gt bc its light, but then in the highway...bye bye little 4 cylinder.

he doesnt have a turbo. the 2.5i is just a regular impreza with 170hp. his intake and exhaust combined maybe give him another 15hp together. plus his big sti wing for downforce. but there's no way he could take me on the highway. at least i dont think he can

Well alot would depend on the driver too but I would bet money on you to win.

Yes top end you will have alot more then him but remember alot of the newer cars like the mustangs have what they call limiters that shut down after certain speeds

yea he is definitely limited. he laso cant redline it more then 3 times or he loses his warranty. something in the computer tells subaru if he's been doing it when he brings it in for oil chages and stuff like that. he said he topped at 115 with his air conditioning on but when he shut it off he got it to 135. which is the most bull $#!+ i've ever heard. so i think i could take him. i heard the 300zx is limited to 155 like the vr4, but if you take the limiter off their top speed is 190-195. i dont know if thats true for the vr4, or even the 300zx, but thats pretty insane

No they're not. They are drag/power/gearing limited too 155 (or so). There is no governer or speed limiter on these cars...and no, a stock 300Z would not run 195mph if it wasn't governed (I don't think they are either)

Originally the limiter was first introduced on the camaro by gm then others started to follow but the 300z never had one and neither did the 3000gt.

im pretty confident that your 3000gt will smoke em..its a plus to have the 5 speed of course but i dont see it goin the other way and as for the top speeds..i have a 96 gs auto with the 420a and ive got it just under 140 and had to slow down to make turn..i have no mods on it so im not so sure on your top speeds of 170 on the gsx..just seems slow for a turbo awd compared to my n/t automatic gs..
