On my 92 mitsu. diamante, I hear a grinding noise, exactly like the noise you hear when the power steering is bad and your turning the wheel, when driving or in neutral, as long as the car is on, its making the noise, but when I step on the gas it revs up this noise at the same time, one person told me its the trans, and another said its the rack and pinion, but neither seemed to sure about it, but the noise is coming under the front of the car, anyone have an opinion??

2 things can make that noise. bad power steering pump,or the fluid pump inside the trans. since the power steering pump is on the top of the motor, i would say the trans is at fault.

 

Thanks For The Input, its an old car and I'm not sure I'm willing to spend to replace or rebuild the trans, the noise is annoying, but doesn't affect anything, so I can live with it....thanks again for the reply!
