How do i take my Alternator out. 1994 Diamante
I know how to do all the work so im good on that part, however yesterday i spent about 4 hours sitting in the rain trying to unbolt my alternator which seems to be extremely hard considering you only have about 2 inches of room to work. SO i finally get it out and it can move free but i cant get it out! its just stuck inside enclosed by my brake lines, Bracket coming off my engine, and my axle. I have no clue what to do i tried unbolting my engine mounts and raising my engine but i still need another inch. I was thinking about just doping my axle out. HELP! this sucks i miss my wanna be bmw.

What engine do you have? I have a 97 LS but have a manual for the 94. Here is what it says about the 1994 alternator removal:
Alternator removal 3.0L SOHC and 3.5L 1. Disconnet negative battery cable 2. Disconnect and remove air intake hose. 3. Loosen tensioner pulley and remove belt 4. On California models, remove rear bank converter assembly 5. Remove engine roll stopper stay bracket 6. On 3.0L engine, remove EGR pipe and disconnect the EGR temperature sensor wire 7. On 3.0L engine, remove intake plenum stay bracket 8. Disconnect alternator wiring connectors 9. Remove alternator from beneath vehicle. |
How did you finally get the alternator out? I have a 3.0 DOHC ('94 LS) and the alternator is free, within the area behind the engine (above axle), but I can't figure out how to get it down. The literature I've seen says to remove the mounting bracket. I've removed bolts that appear to hold the bracket, but it doesn't budge. This isn't my first alternator change out, but it is my first on this model and I'm unimpressed with the mounting location. Can anyone help?

For the '94 3.0L DOHC, here's what my manual says:
