Default Help with Distributor on 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse?

My son has a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse 3.0 v6 About 3 months ago ,he replaced the intake gasket cause there was a bolt missing on intake and he thought it had a broken bolt in it, but it wasn't, and after a month it started bogging down and idling rough .Thinking he might have did something wrong , I replaced it again, and also the sparkplugs but still didn't fix it. so I Took off cap and rotor and plastic cover behind rotor and there was oil in there ,so I cleaned it out good and replaced cap and rotor, and it ran great for about two weeks and started doing it again ,so today I cleaned it out again and it runs great so i'm guessing its the oil inside the distributor making it lose contact some how. Has any one had this problem before ? Is there an o ring inside of it that can be replace? I know there's one on the out side of distributor housing were it goes into the head. any advise would be great. thanks
