Default 2004 endeavorLost/stolen key

Is it possible to remove and replace the ignition cylinder in the steering column with one that doesnt need a transponder/codded key? My girlfriends 2004 endeavor was stolen. Ive heard the the key signals the ecm and injectors to firing order....can this be rigged any other way?

The key micro chip signals the 'timing' computer, that then signals the main computer.
Anything is "possible" if you have enough money and time.....
Locksmiths have factory keys and software to program. > BUT...
Dealer should be able to cut key and program to car.
Did thieves 'keep' key/remote?
