2008 Endeavor, leaking gas like a MF upon filling up, up to about 16 oz. Assuming its the fuel tank filler but haven't even taken access panel off yet. It's raining so I thought I'd check here for any advice. Thanks in advance.

 

A few years back, I bought a 2008 Endeavor. When I got it, I looked into any recalls, or service bulletins on it, and found one on the filler neck.

It was only performed in certain states - those that have harsh winters, and use road salts.

The problem is that the protector, that goes over the filler neck, traps mud, and salt, and will corrode the filler neck. My guess is that you filler neck has corroded.

I live in Texas, so the recall work was not done, but my daughter was going to use the car up north, when she was in school, so I used a step drill bit, and drilled a hole at the lowest part of the protector, to ensure that crud was able to drain. The hole's decent size, approximately 1" in diameter.
