Default Replacement heads came with different camshafts.

I have an 05 Endeavor 3.8L. 6G75. Timing jumped, I heard a rattle, when it did, the car shut off. I never checked the pressure on the cylinders, just figured some valves were bent. So I picked up a set of heads off ebay got them checked and put them in.
I noticed the timing marks were right on mark without having to line them up. I thought that was odd. But I went ahead and lined up the mark on the crank and put the belt on and set the tensioner. When I went for my two revolutions, the valves were touching 5 teeth into the first revolution. After trying different things that didn't work, I finally gave in and went into the heads.
I found the cams were set up different, the lobes are at different angles than the cams in the old heads. All the heads have a 6G75 S4 cast marking. Did they make a different stock cams for the 6G75's?
Any ideas on how I can fix this? I can't use my old cams, they are in bad shape.

> Hey yo, Were the sprockets removed/put on in different position?
> Do you have a micrometer to measure lobe height to compare?
HTH. Let us know.

Replacement heads didn't come with the sprockets, I transferred them over from the old heads, one at a time so I wouldn't get them confused. At work right now, but I can mic them when I get off, and let you know.

The cam lobes were close to the same measurements +/- .02 mm
Exhaust lobes
Toe 37.22 mm/ 1.4655 in
Base 32.11mm/ 1.2640 in
Intake lobes
Toe 37.45mm/ 1.4745 in
Base 32.06mm/ 1.262 in
Cam in the front cylinder head is ok, it matches the old cam sporocket alignment pin and lobes are all at the same angles
Cam in the back cylinder head sprocket pin is off by maybe 50- 60°. I saw in a related post a member with a Montero sport had a similar problem with an endeavor head. Do you think I may have an Montero Sport cam?

> That sounds probable.
>Did you see thread where someone moved/adjusted their cam and corresponding T mark to overcome this?
> Is there a part # on that cam? Try to find out what it belongs too and look into that forum and cams in general.
Good Luck. Let us know.

The related post was by member "docuome" titled "Reconditioned right head and timing." And I was mistakened it was a Montero Limited not Sport. I'm Back at work again. But one had a cast marking of BB01 the other I think was CK20 or CK02. Thinking to myself, if only they could have just made the alignment pin into the sprocket, then drill and marked holes at different degrees into the end of the shaft. I'd be driving already.
I'm going to read the post and cam forum you mentioned and see what I can find. If all else fail, I was thinking about picking up a degree wheel, taking measuresments off the old cam, and see if I could place another timing mark on the cam sprocket to work with the replacement.

Sounds feasible.
Best of luck.

Ok, finally got a chance to get it done. Downloaded an image of a degree wheel, printed it into a size that would fit inside the cam gear, aligned the new cam with the old one, found the mark needed to be 10 teeth before the timing mark, so I placed the timing mark there. Put on the belt and set the tensioner, did two revolutions by hand, checked the marks everything lined up re-checked my tensioner, everything checked out, so I started it up and let it idle for about 40 mins, shut it off rechecked my fluids. Started up again, took it around the block and to the store. Runs good, just need to vacuum down and recharge the a/c and replace an exhaust gasket. Thanks everyone for all the input and thanks for this forum. There is a lot of knowledgeable people on here.

That's great!
Glad it worked out. The internet is the best thing for auto repair.
Best.
