Question Steering Problem

My wife drives the 04 Endeavor
She keeps telling me that "occasionally" when turning hard/sharp, the steering growls a strange noise and is very hard to turn.
I have tried to reproduce the symptom but have not been able to "yet".
The power steering fluid is OK and has not changed since we bought it new.
Any idea what might cause this?

I bet she's turning it against the steering lock, and she's hearing the pump groan for mercy as it burns.

She says it does it when backing out of the driveway and turning the wheels.
I asked if she was turning sharp enough to hit the stops.
she says no.
I asked her how often it happens, she says once every so often....
asking wtf?, she said about once or twice a month but usually when cold or wet.
I drove it for a week and tried to stress it turning sharp at a stop and below 10 mph zig zagging all around a parking lot and never heard anything as she described.
weird....I think she's building a case for a new car and not wanting to drive an unsafe vehicle strategy.

It's probably the strut mounts. They have a bearing in them and groan when they get old.

Or your lower control arm bushings. Push down on the fender and see if you get a squeak.
