Tcase also know to be called xcasemeans transfer Case. It is a differencial on the tranny that puts power to the rear wheels basically makes the car AWD

Nope, not fixed yet.

Today, before work, I went to check the status of the car and my mechanic had the tranny ripped apart. Something broke or got looseand thenjammed the gears.....which then blew out a small chunk of metal in the housing of the tranny. Yeah, there’s a small hole the size of my fingertip on the side of the tranny. My mechanic isn't really concerned though, he is able to weld it, and then replace the damaged pieces.

He said that whatever snapped or came loose could be the result of the noise I heard for that brief amount of time. He says that the Transfer case is fine, but I'm a bit concerned about that.

I've always heard that the TC’s makes a whining noise when its going bad. Is the noise in the video clip that same wining noise everyone’s is talking about? Cause I’ve been told that the whine is different from what’s actually in the video clip.

And also, when people hear that noise, it doesn’t go away. Mines did in about 5 min. But once the tranny is done I’ll no for sure if the TC is ok or not.

Yeah EMonz is right, the transfer case is a unique piece of hardware for AWD and 4WD vehicles with the basic function of transferring power between the front and rear wheels.

“Two wheel drives don’t need a transfer case as the driveshaft comes directly out of the transmission to the drive wheels”.

In the case of owning an Evo, the transfer case is the most important piece of hardware, at least forme.

There are situations where transfer cases can't even be rebuilt, and they cost an arm and a leg.

Some might argue and say that there are situations where trannys can't be rebuilt as well, but from research I've done, TC's are easier to screw up beyond repair vs trannys.

But that’s just my opinion.

status of the car:

I decided to take the tranny to a transmission specialist instead of having the guys at the local shop work on it. So I took the tranny, as it was already out of the car and somewhat ripped apart to Jack of jackstransmissions.com. After about a day he was able to identify that the tranny locked up due to lubrication issues. He determined that there wasn’t enough fluid in the trans which caused an enormous amount of friction. As far as the car, I rented a trailer and transported it to the specialist as well. Jack believes that the transfer case wasn’t damaged since the 4-wheel lockup wasn’t caused by the TC and was due to the tranny itself. Either way, Jack is rebuilding the tranny to where it easily handles up to 500 horses. The TSB and other info can be found on his site. There is also an upgrade for the TC which adds larger cover bolts, seal kit, and tighter bearings and gears. I’m getting the tranny performance upgrade but not a 100% sure if I should get the TC upgrade. I mean I should get it but it costs $350 extra. I might just make the sacrifice and work a few extra hours to get the TC upgrade. But after I’m done with the drive train upgrades, it should hold up for a long time.

should hold up as long as you keep up on it. Doesnt change the fact they require many frequent fluid changes. The T case in the Evo was just poorly designed around cooling and that is part of the problem. The splash guard plays a huge role in routing air to the T case cooling fins

No, they're not. I dealt with the whole situation incorrectly. I wasn't able to confirm that it was due to a lubrication issue till about 4 days ago so at that point I was just all about getting the job done correctly. If I ever find myself in a mess like this again I'm definately taking a different route.
