Default Boost Questions

I own a 2003 EVO 8 i just finished the audio aftermarket stuff and now im ready to work on the performance. Heres my question I've been told my car runs 14psi stock and i can daily drive it safely on 19 psi. My question is, is this true, what could i crank my psi up to for the random street race and is there some sort of calculator that i could use to figuire out hp gains of different boost pressures

edit: i live and run this car in colorado a bit more then a mile above sea level

well yes, it's very possible to push even more then 19psi out of the stock 16g turbo your car comes with. As long as you have the supporting modifications that are necessary. First off, you would need fuel pump, 255 walboro. This runs about 100 $ or so, depending.

Second, full exhaust system, to help the turbo breathe when it goes under stress. By full i mean, preferably with o2 housing.

Third you would need flash. from a hopefully respected shop. This bumps your fuel curves, and introduces more air to the mixture.( computer work)

And finally an Electronic or manual boost controller. I always reccomend manual, but thats for personal reasons. Both work just as fine.

At this point, you should be able to run 24psi safely daily driving. Considering ofcorse that you dont hammer the car on every light. Some evo's are even pushed to 26 psi, but thats a bit extreme, and at that point your just heat soaking the car after every run.

Remember not skip any of these steps, each must be followed to run safely and efficiently. anymore questions, just ask

I ran 18 PSI on my VIII with no mods at all. I got the occasional Fuel cut in cold weather.

also if you do end up wanting to get a flash, make sure you have all themods you want so you dont need to do it again when you upgrade other stuff. And i would look into some of the more reputable places for having a main-in flash done

Works P2
DynoFlash
Vishnu
Jestr
Buschur
TurboTrix
AMS

All of these are pretty reputable. Just do your research and decide what best fits your needs
