Default downpipe question

hey guys, i have an 06 evo IX, i have a greddy 3 inch catback atm, looking into downpipes right now, jus curious i noticed alot of people have a 2.5 downpipe goin into a 3 inch catback... is that a better setup than the 3 inch downpipe to the 3 inch catback? i dont plan to go big turbo anytime soon.. but it is planned on in the future. your input would be greatly appreciated

The bigger, the better. Go with a true full 3 inch downpipe.

Yes get 3in most def. But just make sure you get a quailty one and don't be afaird to spend some money. Alot of cheaper ones rub and hit the underside of the car and gets annoying. I went with the DC sport 2-1 downpipe. its removes the cat section too and comes with a bung welded in for a wide band o2 sensor. just remeber to install ur cel fix in the rear o2 sensor location so u don't throw a cel.

To a certain point the 2.5 inch downpipe will produce more power on the low end and it provides more clearance for your exhaust system. However, I would just get the 3 inch downpipe so you don't have to go back and purchase it later if you decide to you want monster power like Emonz or myself.

How will a 2.5 inch downpipe make more low end when backpressure is not a factor?

It does it by maintaining the ideal exhaust gas velocity when the engine is running in the lower RPMs. This provides for slightly more torque off the line up to around 2300 rpm's.

What do you guys think of the QTP cut-out downpipe?
The downpipe I have now is right up against the transfer case.
