Looking Into purchasing an Evo
Hey everyone, im new to the mitsubishi world. I currently have a 1.8t jetta wolfsburg that i did a buttload of work to. Its a nice car but im looking into something with a little more power. Ive been looking into the evo for the past year or so. The thing is, I dont know a damn thing about mitsubishi or japanese cars for that matter. How long should i expect the life of the car to last? (mileage wise). If you guys could just give me a few pointers and opinions that would be great. Like i said I dont really know much about evos other than the fact is they are hot as hell and fast. just out of curiosity, I just turned 21 and i have a clean record, what does insurance usually run for them (im on long island). I could put down about 5,000 on a new one as of right now, what would that cost me month to month? Thanks for all the help!
THere are Evos out there with over 100k on them now. but other than that they are not old enough to really say. I pay $350 a month for my car payment and I paid $22k for my car 0 down. if you buy a new or nearly new IX it will run you high $20k range or in some cases more so you look at with $5k down financeing like $25k or so and depending on teh APR rate it will deteramin the cost. I got a 3.9% rate on mine. most likely you wont get one that low. I would expect to pay $400-$450 or so on just the car payment.
Insurance I pay about $90 a month for it with full coverage. I am 23 with a clean record. when I was 21 I was paying in the $155 range a month that is in Ma. when I lived in tampa Fl I was paying like $360 if not more a month if it was broken down but I alway payed yearly down there.
basically when I was 20 in FL it was $3700 a year then 21 it was $1800 a year I think and now it is around $1300 a year if im not mistaken
oh and these cars are maintanence ****** to you cant be cheap on them. stock tires will be bald at 20k and brake pads will be dead at like 30k and the famous clutches only last a short time depending how you drive but on average they last only like 25k (mine got me 43k untill I upgraded and there was still life on it)

wow these cars might be too expensive for me to buy, im gonna have to put a big down payment if i want to afford it i feel. insurance is going to kill me. besides the clutch upgrade and tires, how is the overall car in general? How often do you have to do routine maintanance and tune ups? Im used to doing work on my car so that isnt a big deal. But what about the warantee on these cars? Wouldnt some of the things you metioned be covered?
none of that would be covered it is all normal wear and tear no matter what ar you have. The Routine maintanecne needs to be dne a little more often. For example you should change your tranny and rear diff fluids every 10k or so and the t case every 6k. I do my oil change every 1500-2000 miles just because I am **** about it. The Evo warrenty is a tough one. Mitsu wont honor anyhting if you mod the car. I did get my calipers and wing replaced under warrenty because the paint was blistering and peels which is a normal thing to happen to the Evos.

this car seems like its a lot to handle. Im not so sure if i want to get one anymore lol. Are the parts expensive for it?

The maintanence is not expensive it just needs to be kept up on.

definatly 2 different LEAGUES! the R32 is cheaper and a lil lighter but not nearly as powerfull and an EVO would have it by far stock to stock. the biggest thing about EVO's that people love is how well they take MOD's... the IX's take them much better b/c of the bigger turbo but with a simple TBE, MBC, intake and flash tune you arre looking at 340-370whp... that is absolutly insane and unheard of to gain almost 100whp just off of those few mods. but some still don't feel that 16-20k justify's the power. i've wanted an evo for the longest time and been back and forth back and forth (just ask mike... him and i both get sick of it) but i simply cant afford it. if i got one i would get an IX. they are down to 25k now but won't be under 20k until early - mid next year. there is a big deabate on if the new EVO X will either make the price of VIII's and IX's go up or down. most people think it will make them go down just because it's the new thing BUT some also see it as these 2 years being the last years w/ the 4g63bT in them so it's a wash as of now. i'd personally wait and put a good chunk of chang down. tha'ts what i planned on doing but some unexpected bills came up and i won't be able to buy an evo until 2010... so i'm just dealing w/ it.
