Default 01 Galant 2.4 Hesitation

Just purchased an 01 Galant 2.4. When accelerating it seems to hesitate or shutters a bit. It seems to do it more when it is cold and at lower rpms up to about 3k, such as when leaving a stop sign. It still does it when it is warmed up, but just isn't as noticable. I have replaced the spark plugs (NGK's), pcv valve and just ran a bottle of Chevron fuel injector cleaner through it and the problem still persists. My next step is to ohm the plug wires out and see if something comes up there. Anyone have any suggestions as to what it might be. My next step would be to take it to the dealer and have them take a peak at it. I just thought I'd try a few things to try a troubleshoot it first. Let me know.

check for faulty plug wires, check coil packs and also check for fuel pressure.( remove vacum lines, check for pressure)

I'd greatly suggest that you bring it to the dealership. There are a few TSB's involving hot and cold misfires that may apply to your model. The repair involves flashing the PCM. It will be beneficial since the Mitsu Scan tool can check for any software updates available for your PCM and reprogram it all in one shot. I'm also pretty certain there is a replace to address transmission concerns as well. At the same time, i'm pretty sure that PCM (including update flashing) is covered for 8/80K (in California at least).
Of course there remains the possibility that you will also need a set of ignition cables. Note that you DO NOT need to purchase the entire coil/stalk (boot) assembly as the stalk on the coil overs are now available seperately if you need them. A visual inspection inside of the boots may reveal traces or evidence of spark leakage- seen it many many times on the 2.4L.

My Galant has the same problem; hesitates and sometime time shuts down, RPM falls below 500 and then goes dead. I have changed the plugs , wires, rotor, cap. So far not doing the trick.

For my 60K service had the same problem , dealer did a throttle bodu clean and it helped for another 60K miles.

My next try is to replace the distributor, along with the wires, plugs, rotor and cap. If this won't help........will have to roll it down a cliff.

I have 01 Galant with 90k miles, just recently same problem occured on mine too. Dealer suggested replacing plugs, plug wires, and cleaning of entire fuel injection system.
I will start with the plugs and wires, we will see then.....
