Default Engine Light

I inherited a 1998 Galant. The engine light is on with code P0301 and P0505. Googling shows #1 spark plug misfire and IAC problem. Advice please?

Changethe plugs and wires and clear the codes and see if the p0505 comes back on. If it does your probabaly looking at an iac valve.

Replaced the wire set and spark plugs. Nothing was changed. The check engine light is still on. I wanted to also replace the cap and rotor but the Autozone near me did not have them in stock. Does the Galant have mechanical timing? It is hard to belive it still exist in 1998.

What other parts should I throw at the car to get rid of the check engine light?

Yeah you have to clear the light and see if it comes back on.

Sorry to follow up so late. Disconnecting the battery cleared the CEL and the car passed inspection. But soon after the CEL came back. I am just going to ignore it.

Go to autozone and scan it, see if you have the same codes or not.

Hello, The iac needs to be changed. I guarentee it,those things go out very commonly.

If the idle is rough or going up and down then you know for sure.
