2000 Galant ES 4 cylinder
How many AT filetrs? One at the top canister type I can see. Is there an internal filter too? SP II is speced for my car. Is this Mercon ATF equivalent? Thanks

You're 00 ES has 2 filters. One is a servicable external filter (similar in looks to an engine oil filter) on top of the trans near the shift linkage and the other is INSIDE the tranmission case and does NOT need regular servicing. Mercon is NOT compatible with Mitsu SPIII ATF. AFAIK - only Chrysler ATF+4 is compatible as this is what Chrysler uses in their vehcles equipt with Mitsu powertrains. On a side note: for some reason Mitsu went away with the servicable external filter on 2001 and newer Galants and did not include them with their transmissions leaving only the inaccessable internal filter....
