Default overdrive not kicking in

Hello,

I have a 1995 galant that the overdrive is not kicking in. When I go over 60 MPH, the tach shows 3,000 RPM. At 70+, its shows 3,500 RPM. The car runs great and the tranny is shifting at lower speeds but not at higher speeds. Only have 72K on the car. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Hello,

Just wondering, have you had a chance to get the tranny checked out by anyone to see what may be causing this problem?

Thanks,

I have a 98 galant es with a similar problem. I find that if I give her hell up to 80 then slowly let her come down to 68 mph overdrive will kick in and I will be setting on 3K rpm. Now sometimes if I accelerate at a slow rate it will shift into overdrive around 50 mph.

If it's only showing 3,500 at 70mph, how do you know it's not kicking in? On my 94, the overdrive quit working and at 70mph I am just under 4,500rpm.
