09 Lancer GTS CVT

Im looking at getting this model and am torn between the graphite and the octane blue. I know for sure im going to tint and get chrome accents. Any suggestions? I wish I had the cash for the evo.....

RE: 09 Lancer GTS CVT

My suggestion would be to not get the chrome accents..... Personally I like the Blue : )

Can I ask why you want the CVT?

RE: 09 Lancer GTS CVT

Honestly I dont see any difference between the M/T and the CVT.

Maybe im just slow but are there any differences?

RE: 09 Lancer GTS CVT

A tonne.

One being the actual design of the transmission. A CVT esentially has one single gear, but the ratio changes relative to the throttle position, and speed. (CVT = Constantly variable transmission)What happens when you go wide open throttle... the RPMS climb, and when they reach redline normally it would change gears, but the CVT just stays there... and the car keeps pulling. Its pretty crazy cool lol.

There are pros and cons to this. One being that the car will be quicker because it will always be in theengines peak torque. The downside is fuel economy. Compared to the manual trans, it goes down a lot.

Another downside is the control you have over the car. As with any automatic, you don't have the use of a clutch, so that is an element of control you now don't have. I just don't feel right when I cant control that...

The pros of a manual trans is you learn the ropes of a stick for one. You generally drive a little better because you have to do more, and it makes you a little more connected to the car. It is also a little easier to control your fuel consumption. Also, nothing compares to the fun of boming through the gears : P

Oh, and yeah... skip the chrome stuff.

RE: 09 Lancer GTS CVT

Now what about the paddle shifters? Doesn't that give you the same feeling as a stick would?

I mean it holds the car in that gear until you shift out of it.

RE: 09 Lancer GTS CVT

Not at all. The entire point of a clutch is to give you control over the engagement of power.

For example, in race cars, if you are sliding or losing traction, the first thing you are supposed to do is push the clutch in. What the hell can you do it you have an auto? Hmmm... not a lot. And lifting off the gas throws you into a spin.

Rommel 04-27-2008 12:48 AM

RE: 09 Lancer GTS CVT

Well those of us that are good drivers know how to put more power to it and gain control back no matter what.

Sebba 04-27-2008 12:53 AM

RE: 09 Lancer GTS CVT

I am telling you, you DON'T have the same control over the car.

It all boils down to what you want the CVT for.

If you are a car enthusiast, you wouldn't have even considered it. If you care about fuel economy, bad decision too. If you just want to cruise around... go for it.

But forthe love of God skip the chrome sh!t...

RE: 09 Lancer GTS CVT

Ok I get the point with the chrome. All I would do with that is the front grill. Nothing more. The CVT is more of an option i wasnt taught how to drive a manuel. I know the concept but havnt put it to use.

RE: 09 Lancer GTS CVT

+1 agree with Sebba...although when you upshift in the cvt it engages real quick, it is not the same as driving a 5pseed (FTMFW!!!!!)

Sebba 04-27-2008 11:00 AM

RE: 09 Lancer GTS CVT

But you really arent shifting, its just setting the transmission to those set ratios.... personally I think its lame lol

RE: 09 Lancer GTS CVT

get the CVT.... nothing is less fun than sitting in traffic rowing through gears endlessly.

Matter of opinion...

matter of opinion is correct.
and my opinion is manual or nothing.
i like my clutch and the control it gives.

also please spare yourself, no chrome. [&:]

RE: 09 Lancer GTS CVT

Alright, Alright no chrome. But its lookin like I might have to go with an 08 instead.

RE: 09 Lancer GTS CVT

you do know there is a difference in engine size and power from 08 to 09 right.
the 09 has the 172 hp 4B12 2.4 and the 08 has a 152 hp 4B11 2.0
is there an availability problem with the 09??

RE: 09 Lancer GTS CVT

Sebba is totally right.

CVT is bad ONgas, use cruise control more oftern and pretend thatthe cruise control as a Paddle shifter. i used it all the time like a paddle shifter and I drive a manual ES

CHROME on a 2009 Car. That is so old shool I prefer Gun Metal or carbon Fiber sheets it is real carbon fiber put you can cut it into different sizes or shapes.

Please by the Ralliart if you wanna go faster than the GTS or almost has fast like the Evo Lancer.

Beside driving a regular LANCERis not REALLY slow it feels heavy But it depends how you drive it.

Mine can Overtake 5 cars in 60 seconds on 4th gear. Believe it or not
They can Accelerate fast that's the good thing about the Lancers just like the Mitsubishi Zero fighter of WW2.

Yeah it was avalability. It was either an 09 silver or the 08 electric blue. Deal that I had a hard time passing up. sun and sound, fast key, nav, under 23,000.

Hell of deal!

RE: 09 Lancer GTS CVT

I just got my 2009 Lancer GTS CVT. Having driven the 2008 GTS for a while, the extra 26 Horses (168 vs 142 california) under the hood makes a noticeable difference.

Other minor differences:
Speedometer is not red anymore
I added the option of the "Lancer" alloy fuel door andscuff plates (looks very nice cuz i got silver)
Carpool lanes added to Navigation

Late Entry
I came from a 95 M/T Eclipse GSX. Got tired of the M/T (Guess I'm getting old.)
I bought the 09 Lancer GTS Fully loaded w/ the CVT. It's Graphite Gray. I love the car. It fits what I need. Good Gas Milage and ease of driving. The Techno stuff with the fully loaded version offsets the Performance. If you want to street race or race at all and mod the heck out of the car but can't get the EVO go w/ the five speed. A turbo kit is available but why not just wait for the Lancer Ralliart. Best way to get into the EVO world but at a do-able price. If you want something sporty with good gas milage and the technology go with the GTS. By the way Electric BLue (08 Lancer) and Octane Blue (09 Lancer) are the most popular color for female drivers. Nick name for that color at my dealership is Hooker Blue! LOL

I did not know that... makes me happy that red was the only color I could get my hands on for the '09. I got the M/T, go with that, good feel.

And just to reiterate, even though you're definately sick of hearing it, chrome = yuck
