FREAKING MITSUBISHI!!!
ok so i drive an 03 lancer ES. as many of you lancer drivers may know, mitsubishi recalled the lancers to have the exhaust system or 02 sensor repaired. lately my lancer has been driving with a serious lag on it. (i hit the gas and my car takes forever to build up the power to go). i took it to aamco to get it diagnosed and then they said that it would be 98 bucks and hour just to see if the problem was either my 02 sensor or cat back. if anyone drives a lancer and can tell if they have had a similiar problem and what they did to fix it i would very much appreciate that.
Catback? What would that hurt? From the cat back is just piping that leads to resonators (if your car has them) and then the exhaust can. There's nothing there to clog. The cat can clog, but not from a 2003. I had my original cat for 8 years...come on AAMCO, don't give BS speculations. If it clogged, you would have a CEL (check engine light) come on because the downstream o2 would set it off as it is it's job.
The o2 is more of a likely suspect...not a catback. $98/hr...pffft.
Do you have a CEL? Can you rev the motor without hesitation...from a stop that is.

Idont think it could be your o2 sensor that caused "lag" to occur in your lancer,or your catback your o2 sensor should be mounted behind the cat I cant rember, but if your o2 sensor failed your check engine light would have gone on, I really dont see it being your cat back it should improve the flow of exhaust gasses which gives you better throttle response. My next guess would be spark plug that on its way out.
I was actually trying to say that it's more likely that the front o2 than the rear to cause that issue.
The rear o2's only job is to tell the ECU that the cat is clogged, but that the o2 won't affect the way the motor is running. Now that I think about it and seeing that there's a recall for the stock cat, you should have that replaced. There may be a design flaw in the cat.....is your CEL on?
I agree, change your plugs and wires and tell us if you have a CEL (that's an amber light with either an engine icon, the letters CEL, or the words check engine.

ok i just changed my spark plugs...and my CEL is on...the only left that i think it could be would probably be the 02 sensor...today i just bought a new front 02 sensor...now i just need to locate where the front o2 sensor is and im good
If you're "lagging" then you're putting in too much gas in a higher gear than what you should be in. ex: 3rd gear in 0-20 mph... then you're engine lags, gives a bit of jumps. Try bringing up the RPM to 3 1/2 b4 u shift up.
lol that never came to me is the car auto or manaul ?? I agree with soul hacker if code there take it to autozone get scanned and let them tell u what it is. I really dont think its o2 sensor if it was runnig lean your would have know by now . and if it was 2 rich mixture a/f you would have seen clouds of smoke out tail pipe but take it to get scanned and get the code check it out on internet so you could stop playing the guessing game
