Default Help on Quick HP!!

Just wondering what's the best way to go for lil HP. Not looking for turbo kit yet. Something small and gives you power. Ex:Intake headers, exhaust etc. Just looking which ones gives you the most, or which mixed give you the same. Been looking to make my Lancer just a lil faster and stronger. Thanks

Road Race Motorsports makes a crank pulley that I've heard good things about, gives you better throttle response. A nice cat back exhaust is always a good upgrade. From what I hear a cold air intake is also a good choice.

Is there other companys that make pulleys for the Lancer? I have only seem to find RRM. They are great, but too much.

They are $99...you won't find any parts cheaper than that making a difference in your cars performance. In any case, here is RRM's "upgrade path" which is usually the same for all cars- intake and exhaust first. This didn't mention the UD pulley, but it is a mod I have on my car and has been good for my money.
US Lancer Upgrade Path

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step One

In order to begin to get some hp out of your engine, it is important to replace the restrictive stock parts of the engine and allow it to breathe.

Intake:

Short Ram intake with a good MAS adapter or Cold Air Intake.

$100 - $250

Exhaust:

A straight through designed muffler is a big help. It is important to take the banana out of the exhaust. 2 1/4 inch is ideal for this engine even if you plan to go turbo. Bigger is not better!

$200 - $500

Test Pipe or High Flow Cat:

The Lancer has two catalytic converters. One seems like enough so why not get rid of the second cat.

$69 - $100

Step Two

Header:

The advantage of a header is increased flow and of course getting rid of the first catalytic converter. The CEL will accompany this mod but there are ways around it.

$350 - $550

Throttle body:

The throttle body is the next mod to pursue once all of these other mods have been made. Increased diameter of the opening allows for more air and better performance.

$289 - $800

I've heard of running straight piping from the front to the back. SHould I do that. WOW, This is what I was lookin for. Thanks so much!

p.s. Does AEM Pylleys as good as RRM?

AEM is a good brand from what I have heard, I have no personal experience with them. I would just compare the material, weight, size, and price and go from there. See if they dyno'd their pulley, see if anyone has feedback.
As for the exhaust converting to a straight pipe I would work on the intake first. The exhaust can expel only as much air as your intake is sucking in. I would get a SRAM or a CAI intake first. Be careful not to go too large on the diameter of the exhaust- the article states that 2 and 1/4 is more than adequate. But, you should also upgrade the muffler and cat while you are under there otherwise your improved exhaust will bottleneck at the cat and stock muffler. The mods will work off of each other too, but don't expect to be blown away with performance differences.

So all this work is little stuff. I guess performance is not cheap. I was told maybe 2.5 inches of straight piping on the exhaust system. I have also heard good things about the ebay intakes. work just as great as AEM and Inkect($250+).

So right now, I might shoot for Pulley, Intake, and if I have enought, go with the exhaust system or headers. Got stuck on that since I only have enough for one of those. After this, could you fell a lil of a diff.? Or it will random by car?

My car is AWD, so I will feel less gains than a FWD car due to the parasitic loss in the drivetrain. I will say however, that when my car gets to 3500 RPM it is much happier than before the mods, off the line it is too, but moreso in the mid to high RPM's. You should be able to feel a difference.
My intake is a Frankenstein intake- I bought it for an 02 Trailblazer when I had it from Ebay, but it didn't fit and I never got to returning it, so I modified it to work on my current ride. The moreal of that little story is if it looks good and makes sense, go for it. The intakes from RRM are only about $150 including a filter, so before you go buying an off brand from Ebay, check them out and compare. Make sure you comparison shop everything you buy and you'll be much less likely to get burned.
BTW, what happened to the front half of your intake?

Alright, Ill do my research on that. I had an intake, and it wouldn't pass inspection. So my dad got one of his buddies to put the stock one on there. It had to come from Ohio cause we couldn't find a junked Lancer near by. Hate having Lancers. Too rare and parts are too much. But in a good way, noone has one like mine :-). Thanks for the help!

hey man, all the above information can boost ur hp, but only like 2-10 extra. your not going to really feel it at all. the best way to go would probabnly just save up and get a decent turbo.
