98 Mirage Noisy lifters 1.5ltr question
Hi,
I just picked up a 98 mirage with 97k, 1.5ltr engine and 5speed trans.. It has a little engine tick to it and gets louder as the car warms up.. Its at the top of the motor so most likely the lifters... How tough is it to change the lifters... I've read some on this site and found the lifters have a pin like size whole for the oil to go thru, can that be cleaned out and the lifter be put back in?? Does anybody have a link with a how-to on changing the liftes? Or maybe its so simple I wont need a link.... Thanks in advance for any help...

RE: 98 Mirage Noisy lifters 1.5ltr question
the 4g15 in notorious for lifter tick after about 85k miles. Mine does it when it's cold out, i just let her warm up for about 10 minutes and it purrs like a kitten. You don't need to change your lifters, simply have them adjusted. Before you go spend money on getting them serviced though, try a thicker oil and some engine conditioner. I put some in every 1500-2000 miles and it helps to keep the noise down and everything moving correctly. If it doesn't solve or reduce your lifter tick enough, you should probably take it to a stealership to have it done. They need to be absolutley perfect or it'll run like poop.
