05 to 06 Montero limited 4X4 gas milage?
Hey guys, I'm thinking about buying one of these and was just curious what to expect? I was hoping for anthing over 18 mixed city highway. If you have one please let me know where you live, type of driving you do, and what kinda milage you get? Also if you take it off road how well does it work?
Thanks

If you want >18mpg, this is not your truck. We get 12-16 mostly hilly city driving. Off road performance is awesome. Unfortunately you will need a car like a CRV to get gas mileage your looking for but youll short yourself on 4x4 performanace. Keep this in mind - assume 18 mpg vs 12 mpg at 15k miles/year and $3/gallon. The 12 mpg truck will consume 1250 gal/year in fuel whereas the 18 mpg truck costs will consume 833. At $3/gal you are looking at a $1250 annual savings ($100/month) with the gas sipper. Is that $100/month worth shafting yourself with a less capable / robust truck? and 12 is worst case on fuel economy of the Montero. Not to mention that the trucks with less gas mileage (read full size pickups) are a bargain right now cause no one is buying them.
On unrelated note -
Funny when I hear the commercials where people are selling off their old paid-for cars for new prius or civic to save gas. The payment is 3-5x the cost of the gas savings. In the end, people are costing themselves more money!! Or how about the calculation of hybrid vs conventional motor. I think you have to drive ~40k miles a year to break even (gas savings vs extra cost) vs a standard gas Tercel...

Yep! MPG sucks! This truck will only give you 12-15 MPG, also if you don't change the engine oil when you are supposed to MPG goes down noticeably. As a 4x4 it is an extremely capable SUV, I have been in many off road conditions and the truck has kept up with and surpassed vehicles like 2007 Jeep Rubicon 4-Dr., 2002 LR Discovery II, and others.
