Default 1985 Montero Tensioner Pulley

Hello all. I have an 85 Montero, and the tensioner pulley is squealing pretty badly. Does anyone know where to get another tensioner pully, or a part number for the bearing that I can replace?

First make sure it is a pulley and not the belt. With the engine running, squirt a little water onto the pulley. If the squeal goes away, you need the belt, if not then it's a pulley.

When u do get the pulley make sure that their is NO play between the bearing and the pulley it's self. I have received 3 pulleys in a row that were bad and when you call them they want your VIN number to get a warranty off of your car. THIS IS NOT RIGHT !!!!! It didn't break or wear on your car.... I think they are reselling the pulleys and collecting the warranty info for cash from the dealer\manufacturer.

That is the craziest scam I've ever heard off. If there is money to be made on some shady dealing - somebody will sure think of it.

Yes,, All three times they wanted the VIN to report a warranty on the truck.. Go figure. A few even looked new too.. I don't get it but they had play between the bearing and the pulley and there shouldn't be any play between them. I am still driving with the 2nd pulley I got from the junk yard. Go figure. I can't seem to find a pulley that is a good buy. It was like 80 bucks too.
