Hi, I'm new to this forum. I have a 1990 Montero which keeps burning the ecm. I've incuded pics to show what section it burns. Upper right corner, 4 small black rectangles. So far I have tried 2 goodfuel control relays, replaced the fuel pump, andsuccessfully completeda wiring harness check list which Mitsubishi printed out for me. Haven't noticed any obvious wiring problems on inspection. This last time it fired right up but started smoking after about 2 to 3 minutes. Any help troubleshooting my problem would be greatly appreciated! This vehicle is history if I don't figure it out soon.

Maybe check your ISC.

 

those are the drivers for the idle air control motor, which has already been mentioned in the post above me.
you have a shorted unit, and it must be replaced.

 

Just wanted to thank off roader and Manybrews for their responses. The Idle Speed Control was indeed the problem. My Montero is now on the road! Gonna have to test the 4WD in the Rocky Mountains real soon. Thanks again!
