Hi guys I'm trying to remove the center console of my monty to install a volt gauge. The only thing that wont let me is the 4x4 shifter (don't know how it is called). Any idea how to remove this?

 

Mine's a '99 but that **** simply unscrews as I recall. Don't see why yours should be different. If pure twisting force won't work there may be a jamb nut at the bottom that needs to be backed off. It's recessed up into the soft rubber lip at the bottom of the ****, See if you can force the proper size open end wrench up in there to back it off or at least hold it while you unscrew the ****. Hope this helps.
