2000 Montero vibration
I have had my Montero for a month or so. I bought it with new tiresand it always had a vibration in it. Today I had the tires balanced again thinking maybe that was the problem. It got a little better but is still there. Could it be a wheel bearing and if so what is the best way to check on this type of suv by the way it is 2x4 not 4x4. Any input would be great don't really have the money to put it in a shop, hopefully this is something i can fix on my own.

Not sure if the Montero is designed similar to the montero sport.
My montero sports started to make a weird vibration sound after 30mph. It sounded kind of like when you use big offroad tires on the street... Like a humming/vibrating sound.
I thought it had to do with my tires because after a certain speed it was always constant.
Well it turns out after I filled all the grease pockets near all the ball joints on my front suspension, the vibration went away.

hello! you said that your montero is a 4x2?? sorry dude, all fullsize montero's are 4x4. the sport has a 4x2 model. so yours must be a sport. a wheel bearing isnt gonna cause a vibration, just a loud noise if its bad. even though you have new tires, one or more could be out of round, balancing wont help that. or a rim could be bent. take it to a reputable tire store and have them put each tire on the balancer and when the tire is spinning look at the rim and tire. you can see if either is out of round. that is a good place to start. also look at the center bearing on the drive shaft, if it is collapsed that could cause a vibration as well. good luck!! greg...

ok, just tossing this is in and maybe not an issue with montero trannys, would a torque converter flutter be possible? causing a vibration or a shudder more likely between 45mph to probably 70mph? does the sport share transmission parts with other car companies like chrysler?

torque converter shudder is a common problem for all mitsubishi models, but is especially common in the montero and the sport. dirty trans fluid or the wrong trans fluid is always the culprit! but that torque converter shudder isnt constant, it comes and goes with the lock up of the converter . it will come and go, at speeds of 25 or more.
