Default 2000 sport wont get above 2500rpm

customer had an oil leak at the oil pump that sits at the bottom front end of engine. I only took the timing belt cover, timing belt, oil pan, and the lower block that sits between the oil pan and the main block. everything is back together but the car does not simply start on it's own. I haft to press the gas. and then when it does start it doesn't rev above 2500 with pedal pressed to the floor. (the ONLY connection i took apart was the alternator). No vac lines were disassembled either.

Could the vehicle still be out of time?

thank you i will get back out there on it and post results later today hopefully

ok so i've come back a few hours later to notify the board that the timing was slightly off (rather think it was the pulse wheel/speed sensor disc that was off mark)

so now the darn car wont acceralte worth a crap and the car shuts off when i come up to a stop sign.

any idea whats going on?

The alternator was doused with oil when the oil leak started. Would this make the alternator go bad? and if so would that in turn make the car sluggish and shut down at every stop sign? I took the volt meter to the batt and it was reading 10.3, I then put it on the charger for a few hours and now it reads 12.4

took batt and alternator to autozone and the batt tested bad but the alternator tested terrific. But i'm scratching my head because i tried the old trick of starting the car and then taking the negative post off of the batt to see if the car would stay running and it DID NOT stay running.

Why is this?

Found out that the 100amp fuse for the batt had went bad. i put a new one in and everything is good runs like a champ. Cnat believe i let a fuse make me pull the timing cover off three times smh
