Default 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Limited w/wrong transmission

Got a pretty interesting project going here, picked up a 2001 Montero Limited with 141,000ish with body and interior in nice shape in an auction for a little project car to run around in the mountains with.

Runs and drives around fine but stays in transmission limp mode showing a shift solenoid e code. Long story short it has the wrong transmission. It had the 4 speed put in instead of the 5 speed at some point.

Not sure if I’m willing to go for a swap or not but figured I’d see if anyone had some fun ideas for getting it to work with the 4 speed in it.
