Hello, I have a 2001 Montero Sport XLS 4WD. The 4WD shifter will not shift and seems to be stuck in between 2WD & 4hi. Any ideas on what might be the issue? It runs and drives otherwise and is either in 2WD or 4WD. The light is flashing green on occasion. Thank you

 

Have you tried pulling on the 4x4 shifter as you begin to slowly drive forward? Do the dash lights show that it is in only rear wheel drive, or in 4x4 mode? Almost sounds like something is wedged down in the 4x4 shifter, or something in the shift mechanism came loose.....you may be able to pull the boot up and look down to see if there are any issues, or check from below.

Did this just happen? Or did you notice some stubbornness over the past few weeks/months in the shifter when trying to shift into 4x4?
