Hello all,

I have a 2002 Montero LTD that is in need of a new/used engine. My mechanic got an '02 engine from a salvage yard, but it turned out to be from a Montero Sport, and he believes it cannot be installed in my LTD. He's a good, trustworthy mechanic, but I wanted to get a second opinion before he restarts the engine search.
Can you put a Sport engine in an LTD?

It depends if he got a 3.0 l engine or 3.5 l. 3.5 is almost identical in spec to the engine used in a full size Montero.

 

Ahh, right. I didn't realize there where two different engine options for the sport. I'll have to ask him which one he got.
So in theory, if he got a 3.5, it could be installed in my LTD?
