Default RE: 2002 Montero Sport Question

Hey everyone, and thanks for all the advice. Here's a status update -

1. I changed out the timing belt on it (did seals, idler pulley, adjuster pulleyand WP too). Not a big deal at all, in fact it was easier than my 3.0L. If anyone is thinking of doing this job, cheapWP, timing belt pulley kit (both idler and adjuster)andcam seals can be bought on Amazon, but the cheapest timing belt and crank seals were found through Autozone.

2. The transfer case was dead because the previous owner was driving with different size tires. The fronts were about 60% tread, the rears were less than 10%. This was causing the TC to bind, and killed it. I found one from a wrecking yard with 10,000 miles on it for $450. Not all that difficult to switch either.

3. There is an oil leak, and it does look like it's coming from the rear of the head (the camplugs). What is this part called, so I know what to order? I still haven't found a service manual for it, so does anyone have a link to the procedure?

4. It looks like in order to change the spark plugs, I have to pull the intake manifold. Is this correct?

5. Again - anyone know where I can find a service manual?

Thanks, and cheers!
Jared

RE: Cam plug seals, look at the FAQ page here, about 10 posts down on this page:

It's REALLY easy on the 3.5 but it will take about an hour. The passenger side is easier so start there. O-rings are between $4 and $5 at the dealer, there is one one each side. The only thing I do differently than what is shown in the FAQs is I put a little silicone grease on the o-ring before I slide the cam plug into the head. Ever since I started doing this the O-rings last a lot longer and when you do have to remove the plug again, it is a lot easier.

I bought a PDF of the factory shop manual off eBay and it's worked well. Paper manuals come up there from time to time but they usually go for over $100.

Cheers!

Mike

Default 2002 mitsubishi montero sport xls help needed !!!

I have a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero Sport xls 3.5 i had the catylitic converters replaced, a tune up, the fuel filter and fuel pump changed and it still does not get enough exceleration when you push down on the gas. It has been diagnosed 2x and the only error code that shows is p1610. Could you please let me know what it could be? I was told the key needed reprogramming possibly or PCM could be the problem. I took it to a Mitsubishi service center and 2 more mechanics and it is still having this issue.:con fused:
