2003 montero limited with blown transmission HELP
i have a 2003 montero limited in vancouver bc and my tranny just blew, i dont know what to do, i cant find a used one anywhere around here and the dealer wants to charge me 10,000 for a new one :S and thats not even with installation. its starts off in 3rd gear (safe mode) and there is absolutely no reverse.
anyways does anyone know what i can do with my car? also no ones really knows how to rebuild the damn thing. im like 1 in 9 people that ive seen own this car in vancouver bc |
Start calling your junk yards. 10k for a transmission just tells me they can't be bothered.

If you want to put a new OEM transmission in, look into all the online resources. Even with shipping, you'll most likely be under 10k.

swapping out a tranny is a piss-easy job.
If you have the tools to do it, go right ahead. |

well ive searched everywhere and there is no used trannys for sale, and spending 6000 dollars is just plain idiotic for tranny.
so the only option i have is to rebuild it. but i was thinking how bad could it possibly be to rebuild it my self? any advise would be greatly appreciated |
I was looking for some unrelated parts for my Monty and found a wrecking yard in Northeast PA that has an '03 that's wrecked. Front end damage. Can't remember name, but they do have an Ebay store.

i have already been searching on ebay.
im thinking of rebuilding it my self with my brother in law thats a mechanic. we have a step by step instructions for the rebuild but not sure how its gonna go. ill most likely post pictures and instructions after im done for other people in my situation. |
