Unhappy 2004 brakes

I was talking with a friend who works for my local dealership. He says that there has been a few Montero brakes going out. Is there a recall does anyone know? I checked and these parts are pricey.

2004 what? montero, or montero sport.

just 2004, or the entire 3rd gen USDM Montero (not sport) 01-06?

what part of the brake system?

been working for mitsubishi dealerships for 22 years, worked on hundreds of montero's. no common parts failure that i have seen. they did have a recall on the brake accumulator for 2001 models, but if that part did fail it would just make a squeaking noise when the brakes were applied. did not affect braking ability. most common thing i see is people wait untill the brakes start making a grinding noise, and it turns out the pad surface has completely worn off and the brakes are metal to metal. that can get expensive.

I have an '02. I was sent a letter by Mitsu stating that there may have been a problem with said accumulator and that they were extending the warranty to 10 years for this part, if it went bad.

You don't need the letter. Mitsubishi will run your VIN to see if the part has been replaced. If it hasn't, they will arrange for the service. I bought my 02 Limited Montero second hand and had the accumulator replaced the same day it started making that chirping noise.
