2006 Montero Stuck 0xygen Sensor o2
Monty threw a P0057 code that requires the o2 sensor to be replaced. I located the sensor but having a tough time reaching the connector and the o2 sensor is stuck. Does anyone have any tips out there to unhook the harness connector and get an o2 sensor out. Did you guys have to use or rig up a tool to get to it? Photos would be nice. Thanks in advance.

I believe O2 sensor connector is on the side of transmission right up against the body. Real PITA to get to it. If I recall correctly, there is a bracket holding the wires and plugs in place. You might be able to remove the bolt on the bracket and move the plug to a different angle that will allow you to disconnect it. As far as removing the sensor - keep spraying penetrating lubricant on it and get as long of a handle for a ratchet or wrench you can, to create leverage. It help if you can put the truck on the lift, since you will have room to move around there. If you're working with it just sitting on the ground - clearance is a big issue and makes it difficult.

Thanks Hunter. I'm having clearance issues and really having a tough time getting to the bracket. It's a PITA!! As for the o2 sensor itself, tons of penetrating oil has been sprayed around the o2 sensor with no luck. Really at a big disadvantage not having it on a lift. I may just have to pay a shop to replace the o2 sensor.

I replaced three of the four sensors myself, but I had to take my Montero to a mechanic I trust to get at the driver's side front O2 sensor. I could not get any leverage on that one. They struggled on it too. I was told that they had to cut the wire, then put on a box end wrench (with the open end cut off), and put a long (4-5 ft) pipe on that wrench. That was the only way the original sensor moved at all.
