Default 212K miles - flush tranny??????

Hello,

'97 montero 3.5. Purchased about 3K miles ago with not a lot of maintenance history.
My tranny fluid is getting brownish and I was wanting to get a full tranny flush. The maintenance guy states that unless I am sure it was flushed before to not do the flush. He states that if it was never done, flushing now might flush out all the grime which is what is keeping the tranny gripping properly.

Any truth to this? I guess it is a roll of the dice either way. If I do not do it then it is just a matter of time. If I do it and what he says is true, I will need to repair/replace tranny which I do not have the $ for now.

Thoughts?

Thanks
Jim

swap fluid. Dont flush.
Swap fluid again in 5k, and again at 10k, and youll be as good as youll get.
