On my '84 Pajero(Montero) suddenly will only drive in first gear, no upshift to second, etc. I changed to SP lll, who knows what was in it, only had 3 years.

Any ideas or test procedures?

Ed.....When you changed the fluid, did you remove the tranny pan and put a new filter in? Did the problem happen at precisely the same time as the fluid change? Do you have Reverse gear working?

 

ED......Also, do you have the big shop manual? If not, I could look in mine and see what I find....might have something on it.

i have reverse; I only changed the fluid several times to purge the torque converter, since I know I added the incorrect fluid before knowing about the SP III fluid. I do have a new filter and pan gasket to install, I was hoping I wouldn't have to do that.

Ed......Maybe its just the wrong fluid in the tranny? But if you have changed it several times and put the right stuff in, you would think all was good.

Also wondering if maybe the tranny lever linkage cable to the tranny maybe got pulled out of place, and thus it does not allow D and 2 to engage?

Hopefully the experts in here will chime in with some ideas.
