ok so I did a tune up and replaced the valve cover gaskets and cleaned it up. Took it for a spin and everything was cool.

The next day it wont really start. It throws a check engine light. So I check everything I can think of. So I got a book and read a lot of posts. One post said they cleaned the throttle body and it casued the throttle possition sensor to go bad. So I read up on testing it.So I got 5.01k ohms which is with in acceptable of what the book says. Next the book said to move the butterfly and see if the reading change. Yet the reading never changed. So I am thinking maybe I found my problem. Anyone have any insight on my problem? thanx

Did you change the plugs and wires?

 

No just plugs. Wires seem ok but I can't be sure.

 

You get them in the right order?

 

according to the chiltion manual and the dealer service manager yes.

Yea I was thinking that as well. How much and how sure are you that could be the problem?

 

I sprayed out the intake and butterfly assemblyw/ carb cleaner on my 02 Montero Sport not realizing the little port in front of the butterfly that goes down into the IAC which was a bad idea, all the gunk jammed it up an the truck started to run rough/clunky. I looked into replacing it and I think I was coming up with 150-300 bucks. I just took mine out-delicately, hosed it down with electrical cleaner and cleaned out the hole it sits in with a rag and light carb cleaner. I think I also applied a very very thin layer of lithium grease to the plunger. Its been over a 1000 or 2 miles and no problems. Since the IAC will be out you may want to take a toothbrush and small cloth toclean the pis out of the butterfly-both sidesand surrounding area. btw,,I'd steer clear of the tps unless ur certain of what you r doing.
