96 LS Montero - what to check, maintenance
I am a newmonty. Happy to have found this site. Apologize if I am asking what others asked before. 3 days ago I got my "new" 96 LS! With 187760 miles this is a seasoned vehicle - not a speck of rust to be found - all electrical items are working - can't believe my good fortune. The rims /tires are not standard - need to be changed. I like to ask for your help: What do I check (items specific to the Montero) to make certain I have this vehicle for another 13 years. I don't think I will flush the tranny - the last time I did that with a Trooper I ended up getting a rebuild tranny!
These are the items I will have checked/ serviced as a SOP:
Drain radiator, check thermostat, radiator hoses, oil, tranny fluid, timing, CO2 sensors (how many are there, 3.0, auto), check / fill front/rear differential and transfer case, exhaust system, brakes, suspension and lube all fittings. Have no oweners manual - try to use common sense and what I can get from the net. Thanks to all for your suggestions and input. newmonty
