ABS light is on

ABS light is on
1998 Montero SPort XLS 4x4
I replaced the front rotors and pads replaced and everything works fine except the ABS light on the dash is now on
. I'm not certain what made this light come on. One thing I should mention is that during the test drive after the brake job, for the first mile or so, everytime I step on the brake the ABS is activated (pulsation on the pedal) but that eventually went away. Right after the ABS light came on.
Any ideas on what happened here? What should I check for? Please advise. thx
