Default acceleration

when accelerating my Montero 2001, 6 cyl., I sometimes feel a slight hesitation.
It's nothing dramatic but i do not want it to worsen.
Would should I check first by your experience? [absolutely no experience with japanese cars and trucks]

Fuel filter?
Spark plugs?
ignition cables?

Are the platinum spark plugs really worth the money? My mechanic rsays yes, what is your opinion?
Thanks for your help

Platinum spark plugs are in there for longevity. Yes, they last much longer than regular spark plugs. They should last you 60k miles, however you need to get the good "double Platinum" plugs. NGK's are OEM. Dealer only sells Iridium plugs now which should last 100k miles. You can use regular plugs and change them more often, but it takes a couple hours to change these plugs, plus you need and intake plenum gasket. I get my plugs at www.sparkplugs.com
