Default Advice for a Newbie

I have a chance to buy a 1989 Montero 4x4 V-6 Automatic with 157,00 total miles. The ad states "rebuilt engine" but I don't know when the rebuilt was done. They've replaced the water pump, timing belt and it looks to be in very good condition. The asking price is $1,950.00. Is this a fair price??? If not, what would you offer? Appreciate the info.

Default RE: Advice for a Newbie

the mileage is too low for 89 model.if the rebuild process is done properly, there is no problem buying it.
get a friend whom know Pajero or 4x4 to check the car out.the transfer case must be in good condition as repair can be costly.search for rust or hole under the vehicle and the wheel arch.take it for a drive, make sure is does not rattle when u accellerate.there is plenty of thing to look after as the maintanance can be high.
i hav one 2.6 petrol 89 model.already clocked 600++km and still running strong.of course there are the wear n tear part but bcoz it was well taken care b4,there is nothing major wrong about it.
