PLease dont continue driving if your alternator is ouputs 16V. Damage the ECU can result. Many times good parts stores like NAPA offers VRs without having to buy the entire alternator. Its a simple part at a fraction of the price. On my german car, the VR is made by Bosch and since most cars are 12V systems, there arent that many different varieties. You may want to pull the VR and grab the P/N - it will be easier for the guy at the local parts store or yourself on the internet to track down the part you need.

had a similar problem. but it was a defective battery with an internal short (or floater if you no what it is) voltage got up to 18v when i tested it
