Default Cigerette lighters no longer work

I have a 2003 Mistubishi Montero Sport and the cigerette lighters have all stopped working suddenly. I check the fuses in the fuse box under the hood and they all seem fine. Is there maybe a secondary fuse box somewhere or something? I'm open to suggestions.

The fuse box in the engine compartment is mostly for major engine and electrical systems. There is another fuse box inside - on the firewall just above and to the left of your left foot. This should be well detailed in your owners manual - if you have one

Oops - let me revise that now that I've re-read your post. What I described is for full-size Montero. The Sport may be different so others will have to chime in. But in any case the location of all fuse boxes should be shown in the owner's manual.

Yes, I have a Montero Sport (although it's a 2000 model) but there are 2 fuse boxes under the dash on the left side of the driver's footwell. There is a fuse there for the cigarette lighter.

I rewired mine so the lighter sockets stay "hot" all the time - Even with the ignition off so my wife can leave her cell phone plugged in over night to charge it.

thanks guys I found the secondary fuse box, but I bought the car used (so no users manual) and there is no cover for this one so I have no idea which one if for the cigarette lighters. There are about 20 different fuses, most are 10 amps, a few 15 amps, one 20 amp and one 25 amp. if you guys have any idea which one it is, or where I can maybe find a copy of the users manual I'd really appreciate it.

Hopefully a Sport owner can e-mail or fax you the diagram. If the parts dept people at your local Mitsu dealer are kind they might also make a copy for you.

For a replacement manual, try:

www.msrecycling.com or www.books4cars.com.

Look at the photos in this link - I think it has what you need. Fuse 5, 15 AMP

Thanks for the help. I checked all the fuses in the secondary fuse box and they are all good as well. So it's probably a bad ground or a bad relay in either case I'm gonna have to take it to my dealership to get it fixed. Once again thanks for all your help

Default Cigarette lighter

Did the dealership ever tell you what was wrong with the lighter? I have a feeling it's one of the reasons I've had to buy/replace 5 alternator 4 batteries and 2 starters. My fuses are good.

love my mitsi. But it has gone through 3 alternator rebuilds. Something in the electrics is voodoo.
