Default Coolant temp gauge ?

Anyone know what these wires are? It looks like it sits on top of the coolant intake to the engine. I might have nicked it when taking off the intake plenum to change the spark plugs recently. It looks like a ground of some sort but I can't tell where it connected to. The coolant temp gauge died after I put everything back together so I'm guessing it might be related? Already changed the coolant temp sensor (check out the brand new 'gold' bling in the bottom right of the pic )

Anyway, any help is appreciated, thanks.

Looks pretty easy to hook back up or just use a jumper wire with a small alligator clip at each end as a temporary way to see if it brings your temp gauge back to life. Is that a rubber insulating washer under the side with the black ? If so it's prolly NOT a ground (which I doubt it being).

that IS the coolant temp sensor for the gauge. make a wiring repair and your gauge will start working again.

Do those connect together or does the one on the coolant pipe need to just be grounded to something? I have no idea where it hooked up to before it broke..

What year is your Montero ? I'd post a service manual link but I'd need that info.

the upper right is the coolant sender for the gauge.

the lower left USED to be an anchor for the ignition cables until it was shattered.

Sounds like he gave you the answer to your question.

Here is a link to a PDF service manual you can download for free:
