Electronic brake wiring from factory?

Hey all,

Aside from having it checked (no idea what to look for) is there a way to see if my 2003 Montero Sport came with electronic trailer brake wiring from the factory? Maybe VIN or something?

It did not come with a tow package. I had a hitch added a few months ago.

Thanks!

Usually trailer brake is not wired. You have to add controller for it.

Dang, was hoping they had the wire run from the factory in some models so all I’d need is the controller. Thanks!

I'm only aware of those factory wiring harnesses on full size pickups. It shouldn't bee to hard to wire it in. Carefully read the manual for whatever controller you got. I think you only need battery positive feed, ground and brake switch signal (perhaps a modulated signal?). Then one wire will run back to the trailer connector.
