FAQ: How to Fix/Repair Sunroof Moonroof on 2001-2006 Montero
#21
Chairmannnnx.......With my 94 Montero sunroofs, I found that turning on the key so the power is on, then sitting in the back seat and using one hand to "assist" the sunroof to open helps. After getting it open, I then cleaned all around the tracks and then used spray penetrating lube all along the tracks and way in the back, then put some grease on any rubbing points and anything that is hinged and moves, and that seemed to help alot. Not sure how your 08 roof is.....I guess they have been moved toward the front, but cleaning and lubing will help.

How to Fix/Repair Sunroof Moonroof on 1991 Pajero Import from Japam
I just acquired a 1991 Mitsubishi Pajero imported from Japan and i would like to resurrect it's monroof from being fixed by a sealant. what should be the first thing to do

First, I would suggest you have a garage or some good tarps before you start.....in case you remove the sealant and then it leaks. But, I would carefully removed the sealant/silicone, and be careful not to damage the rubber or paint around the sunroof. At that point, turn the key on (and make sure the child-proof switch is "off" which prevents the sunroof from working), and see if the motor tries to push the roof open. If you hear the motor make a noise, but the sunroof not moving much, you can use your hand to assist the motion of the sunroof. Once open, you can spray a ton of lubricant on all the slide points and moving parts.
I also think there is a tool that allows you to open/close it if the motor does not work.
Post some pics if you get a chance.
