Fast Idle
From what I have read in the Chilton, there is no idle adjustment on the 89 3.0 V6 short of getting all the parts working properly in the fuel injection and emissons equipment.
Further, it seems like the Idle Control Valve (motor)is the likely culprit. Has anyone else had this issue with their 3.0 V6? Mine idles too fast (especially when cold) and the transition from neutral to drive gearin the auto transmission is resultantly harsh. |
RE: Fast Idle
Usually when the Idle Control Motor goes out, it causes the idle to fluctuate.
My advice is to reset the ECU by removing the negative battery terminal for a min, and connecting it back up. It will take a while for the car to re learn how to idle etc, but it should be okay. |

RE: Fast Idle
I figured figured out the reason for the fast idle.
I had also been noticing that the truck was running cold on the temperature gauge. Initially I thought the gauge was bad. Putting the 2 together, it came to me. The thermostst was frozen in the open position! The engine was taking, as a result, a very long time to warm up to a temperature that the computer software has stored as the temperature at which to slow down the idle speed. Replaced the thermostat, and walah, idles normally now once it reaches set temperatute (195 degrees). :-) |
